Pie for Pi Day

This past Saturday was March 14, aka 3.14, the value of pi. A friend of mine had the bright idea of celebrating this “pi day” by making pies. I was contracted to be one of the pie bakers because “somehow [he] had gotten the impression that [I] like baking.” This statement is not exactly wrong, but I would not profess to be a baking hobbyist given that I only own a toaster oven (ovens have still yet to become a fixture in Chinese kitchens). But, I do like getting my hands dirty, so I joined the ranks of 4 bakers to make 10 pies in one afternoon for a Pi(e) Party. My responsibility fell to making the custard pies, a coconut cream pie and a lemon-strawberry meringue pie (a recipe of my own creation). Both turned out delicious, and I even got complimented by a real-life, Paris-trained master chef. It was quite the validation of my baking skills. Perhaps I will put the recipes up on the world cookbook!
