My first box of contacts

For the past couple months it has been on my agenda to go to the eye doctor and finally get some contacts. I probably would not have thought about it of my own accord, but Andy was running out of his contacts and needed to get some new ones, and I thought, heck, I’ll probably end up like my mother one day, I might as well get them now and get used to them.

So, it was off to the eye place in Carrefour (no boycotts or protesters yet at the one near me). Andy had his prescription in hand, but I had to get an eye-test because I didn’t have mine. Luckily, all I had to read were letters, not Chinese characters, so I did pretty well, aside from simply having poor vision. After fifteen minutes of reading letters, the verdict was in. Both eyes were chabuduo yiyang (almost the same) at -.125. I bought two boxes of half-year contacts on the spot, which set me back a staggeringly awesome 190 kuai, and the eye exam was free. That’s $27 for a year’s worth of contacts, without insurance! Pretty amazing considering that my glasses cost around $200. Bottom line for all you contact wearers, send me your prescriptions and I’ll get you contacts!

Also more amazing was that it only took me half an hour to get them both in, with the help of master coach Andy. By the way, I can’t even put eye drops in my own eyes, so it really is amazing that I was able to poke myself in the eye with my finger. I haven’t yet tried to do it again because it would probably make me late for work, but I’m going to try to have another contact wearing day this weekend!

Plus, now I’m down to ten minutes for getting them in, less then a minute to get them out
